How RFID Blocking Works

Passive RFID and NFC chips have no battery: they wake up only when a reader's radio field powers them. A conductive shielding layer - copper, nickel or a metallised film - reflects and absorbs that field, so the chip never powers up and cannot send its data. That is why a card inside an RFID blocking sleeve or wallet cannot be skimmed, yet works normally the moment it is taken out.
